Why is Building a Website Like Making
A Quilt?
- Structure and content are separate, but they have to work together.
- The flying geese pattern is a pretty static structure. Using different colors and materials makes very different quilts.
The same goes for a simple sidebar, header and footer css.
- Thinking ahead and planning are important. But you have to leave space for the spontaneous solution that often turns out to be the creative one, and sometimes emerges from solving a problem.
- One piece at a time. One stitch at a time. It takes a little patience to get everything just right. (Of course fabric is more forgiving than html. )
- Color is important. That goes without saying. But learning to trust one’s “eye” rather than trying to follow formulas goes a long way.
- Granny needs her reading glasses!
